Rachel Moss, asshole

  • May. 28th, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Killer Kitty
Rachel Moss wins the Asshole of the Month award for going to WisCon so she could take pictures of people and mock them for being not skinny, not white, not able-bodied, and not cisgendered. Other people have written about her far more eloquently than I ever could, so I link to their posts:

http://www.seeworthy.org/2008/05/28/why-does-rachel-moss-hate-your-fat-transdisabled-body/

And the beautiful response from one of the targets of her hate:

http://community.livejournal.com/wiscon/154275.html

What better response could there possibly be? It reminds me of the photo of an anti-Vietnam War protester putting a daisy in the barrel of a police officer's gun. "I see your hate, and raise you love." I only hope that Rachel Moss gets the message.

Eileen (the woman who posted that response in the Wiscon community) looks a hell of a lot happier than Rachel Moss probably is.

Eileen kicks ass. She also gives a great massage.

I can't even imagine how fucked up a person would have to be to do something that cruel.

We're all pretty flabbergasted ourselves. What did this woman expect from a feminist SF convention? A gathering of white Christian supermodels? She must really hate herself if this is what she needs to do to feel good.

I agree she's fucked up, but it's hard to pity someone who is that wilfully despicable.

No shit. Honestly, if she'd posted this without names and pictures, then I could have felt more charitable towards her. But no, she went all the way.

Oh my fucking god. That's really all I can say. Let me say it again. Oh my fucking god.

That pretty much sums up my initial reaction. I'm incredibly glad that there are people out there who are far more eloquent about it than I am.

Wow. Just wow. What a mix of hatred, self doubt and drama-whoring. I don't know her real name but purplefrog handled that beautifully.

Purplefrog is my new hero. Also, she gives a killer massage.

Wow. I assume people are going to be assholes--but what I don't assume is that they're so ignorant of technology that they'd act on their assholery in such a permanent way.

...I mean, she does know about the Wayback Machine, right? I can't wait until she tries to sue "The Internet" for libel. hahaha!

I think she's young enough to have grown up in the Internet age, so she really has no excuse.

Many of us are. Thankfully, some of us have figured out how to articulate our rage for those of us who can't.

First--thanks for linking to Eileen's post. It was awesome. I'd have left her a comment about the killer dress, but so many others did that I felt she got the message.

WisCon had it's foibles this year, eh? Killer stomach flu AND the she-devil of idiocy. It just boggles the mind that she had nothing better to do with her time than this.

Now, if you had the choice of befriending this young, white, acceptably thin, supposedly intelligent, reasonably attractive woman, or the bodacious, giving, massage therapist woman of spectacular size, who would you choose? Hmmm...tough choice, eh?

My choice is clear.

Oh dear... I wish I hadn't read ABW first. Evidently this Rachel is a psychological mess of the first order. I hate it when I develop sympathy for the cruel.

What a sad person.

And I should mention that as a fat feminist, I wish I lived closer to Eileen because I totally need a massage.

There's only so much sympathy I can give to someone like this. I suppose I could have extended some had she not named names and taken pictures, but both of those actions crossed a line with me.

As for Eileen, I totally recommend her massages. She was great.

I just realized the person she called a "pussy" was a child. An apt insult for some adults but a kid? Oi!

Yeah, she's beyond redemption.

Rachel Moss = pathetic loser. I can't imagine what would drive someone to spend their money and weekend at an event purely to seek targets for snark. Some deep-seated issues there.

Eileen, otoh, looks radiant in her smokin' dress, dancing without a care. Yes, Eileen = class act.

I'm suddenly not sad that I've been working so much since the con that I'd missed all this.

I'm pretty sure you're in one of the pictures, waiting to get a massage from the Coolest Woman on Planet Earth.

Huh. Interesting and useful word. Thanks!
