Machine is now available to pre-order

Apex has posted the first chapter of Machine to their website, and it includes a pre-order link. I'll also have copies at Arisia. It's coming out late December/early January. We'd originally been aiming for late December for logistical reasons, but those reasons evaporated, so now we're thinking of moving it forward a week for entirely new logistical reasons.

This hardly seems real. I started this book back in 2004, so there's something oddly anti-climatic about it. I suppose that'll change when people actually start reading the damned thing.

I know the feeling. I wrote the original draft of Passion Play in 2002. Publication date was *mumblety* drafts and eight years later. And yes, things will change once you start getting reviews, sales reports, and fan mail.

Time will definitely tell. I wonder if it'll give me more of an impetus to get cracking on the novel I'm currently writing? I've been spinning my wheels on that for a few weeks now.

Congratulations!

That's the best kind of weird surreal news there is.

Isn't it strange how the big goals often seem kind of anit-climatic? Sort of like the journey of a thousand miles ends with a single step kind of thing.

Anyway, congratulations, I'll check it out!

Very anti-climactic. It feels like the proverbial whimper.

And thanks.

It'll probably come out in time for your holiday returns. Maybe I'll be the literary equivalent of Nevermind!

On the basis of that chapter - 'Dear me yes.'

AAAAH, that is so exciting! I loved the snippet and I can't wait to read more. (Hopefully by then I'll be able to afford new books, but for celebratory purposes I am going to assume that I absolutely will. :D)

You can save money if you do ebooks, but I don't think they're doing pre-orders in that format. And thanks :)

I plan to pre-order, but like last time, I'd love my copy personally delivered by the author. :-)

On the opening, that's a must-buy. I don't understand why this wasn't snapped up by the first person who saw it. I'll never understand the publishing industry.

Incidentally, I was at the new 9/11 memorial a few weeks ago and couldn't stop thinking about your story "Ghosts Of New York". *That's* how powerful it is.

I gave up on trying to understand the industry a long time ago. It's better for my sanity if I just let it go.

And thanks for the kind words on the story. I don't know if I should be sorry or glad that it's resonant.

If there aren't, then Jason will have a lot of explaining to do.
